“See You at the Top” is a new weekly business feature which offers profiles of young Houstonians who have demonstrated ambition and excellence in leadership.
A 4th grade teacher at Wesley Elementary School assigned a mock trial in class, and Taylor Ross was a chosen attorney for the trial. From that experience Taylor knew what she wanted to do for the rest of her life. Ross is a 2013 graduate of HISD’s High School for Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice. She was both Valedictorian and Class President, and she served as the captain of the Cheerleading team, President of Ladies of Justice, and Secretary of Student Council. She was also a member of the Houston Urban Debate Team, the National Honor Society, and the Mock Trial Team.
Taylor says the training at her school helped a lot in that many of the teachers and professors had practiced in the fields that she was interested in. Having the access to professionals with years of experience, along with the many technical and career classes, provided her with an advantage in deciding her life’s direction. Her main interest is in corporate and entertainment law, but she also has a love for business and entrepreneurship, which she discovered through her mother, and educator, whom she watched open and operate multiple daycare centers. This fall Taylor plans to major in Business Entrepreneurship and Organization at Brown University, where she has chosen to expand her knowledge in the field of business, and earn her Juris Doctorate and MBA.
Ross is a member of the Business Professionals of America, and the Texas Business Alliance. She is a graduate of the Youth Entrepreneurship Academy, where she learned the steps to start her first business, Academic Consultation Enterprises, a learning consultation and tutoring service for inner city youth.
Taylor is defined by her passion towards her work, and her passion for social entrepreneurship. She says that a key principle which she applies in every area of her life, is one she learned from the Youth Entrepreneurship Academy, being to “always make sure that whatever you do, you are passionate about it, and you really give it your all.”
We’ll be looking for Taylor at the top.
