In a Nutshell is a new weekly feature which will brief readers on current entertainment news and happenings minus the pretense and long explanations.
Janelle Monae’s ‘Electric Lady’ dropped September 10, 2013 and it is truly electric. The versatile sophomore album features Prince on a funk track titled Givin’ Em What They Love. The talented songstress has already received 4/4 stars for her album from several reviews.
Kanye West switched up the lyrics to his new track “Bound 2” which features Charlie Wilson to slip in a diss to Ray-J. We were all wondering when he would respond to the “Hit it First” diss which was aimed at Ye’s baby mama Kim K. and Kanye has given us all what we’ve been waiting for. In the opening lines to “Bound 2” he rapped: Brandy’s little sister lame, man he know it now/ When a real brother hold you down you supposed to drown.
Azealia Banks’ debut Broke with Expensive Taste arrives next year, but she has already revealed the track list via a handwritten note on Instagram. There are 16 tracks, including hit single “212,” and “Yung Rapunxel.” It took her three years to finish the album. Azealia tweeted: “I was totally bluffing when 212 blew up. I literally had NO other material and didn’t know if I even knew how to make a body of work. I did it! This is such a feat! Creating a body of work has been my secret battle with myself since 17.” She is already working on her second album, Fantasea II.
Supermodels Naomi Campbell and Iman joined activist Bethann Hardison in calling out top fashion designers for the “racist act” of ignoring models of color on the runway. They not only called them out, though, they named the designers! They put designers such as Calvin Klein, Donna Karan and Armani on blast for ignoring models of color. One designer that’s okay in Iman’s book? Tom Ford. Speaking of Mr. Ford, Iman said: He has diversity because he sees the beauty in diversity.

Who can forget the Keyshia Cole and Michelle Williams Twitter war following the Superbowl Halftime show in February? Well, it was more like the Keyshia Cole attack on Michelle. But any who, the ladies have apparently patched things up and publicly apologized over Twitter for the feud. Keyshia tweeted: I apologize for the mean things I said, it hurt me when I went to your page and saw what you said during my performance. And that still doesn’t make it ok. I said what I said out of anger. And that’s the absolute WRONG time to say things. So can you admit to erasing the tweet that was said about me so people know that anger came from a hurt place not a malicious place? Michelle apologized as well, but not quite with the apology that Keyshia probably expected and longed for. The child of destiny tweeted: Apology accepted. We had an amazing conversation and I also say sorry for ANY misunderstandings! I’m so happy this happened!

The Tamar Braxton and K.Michelle beef has re-surfaced and it is shadier than ever! For a reason which I haven’t quite figured out just yet, Tamar and K.Michelle have not gotten along for quite some time. K.Michelle has gone on record calling Tamar some insulting names, but claims that it was Tamar’s shadiness that triggered this beef. It seemed to all blow over as both ladies celebrated successful album releases recently, until Tamar’s recent Breakfast Club interview. When asked about what she thought about K.Michelle buying her album to support her and move past their drama, the “Love and War” songstress replied: I really don’t talk about the people who bully me and stuff. If you do one good gesture does that make up for you calling me a muppet? Does that make up for you telling everybody I lipsync? I don’t want to talk about her. In my third day I sold over 100,000 copies so we’re not even in the same conversation. Well, if you know K.Michelle, then you know that Tamar’s response didn’t sit well with her. The “VSOP” songstress responded via Twitter by saying: I’m really just trying to stay positive and live my life. I bought the album to support her and everything. I don’t get it. But I’m the bully. You keep throwing rocks at me and then you run and hide behind Vince’s man boobs! You not above getting checked shady boots! Don’t worry about my album sales, worry about finding your original face! My sales are REAL, nothing political ALL HARD WORK. Humble yourself! You bought SEVERAL of those albums. I sold over a 100,000 albums too, just four days after you. SHE is not winning like SHE thinks. So much for kiss and makeup...
