WALGREENS WAY TO WELL HEALTH TOUR WITH NUL IN HOUSTON TO PROVIDE FREE HEALTH TESTS & SERVICES

What: The Way to Well Health Tour will provide free health tests throughout Houston. The free health tests, valued at over $100, measure 10 key indicators that include total cholesterol, glucose, blood pressure, body mass index, body composition, skeletal muscle, resting metabolism, visceral fat, real body age and body weight. The tests are administered to adults age 18 years and older by certified wellness staff and can be completed in approximately 20 minutes.

The 2014 tour marks the eighth year Walgreens and NUL have joined together to provide free health tests and services to urban and minority communities.

The tour will also introduce visitors to Steps with Balance Rewards, the loyalty program that gives people the resources to get, stay and live well, while offering rewards and points for healthy activities they do every day. Visitors will also have access to free educational information on a variety of health and wellness issues.

Who: The Way to Well Health Tour is dedicated to providing free prevention and early detection health services with the goal of promoting better health in urban communities. The initiative is another charitable component of the Walgreens Way to Well Commitment®, a four-year, $100 million initiative to improve the everyday health of Americans nationwide.

Why: Both Walgreens and National Urban League want to overcome the barriers associated with receiving quality health services in urban areas. Research shows that residents in urban communities, esp. minorities, experience disproportionately higher rates of preventable disease. The tour is dedicated to providing accessible, affordable resources for prevention and early detection of chronic diseases – heart disease, cancer and diabetes.
