The Stuff Dreams Are Made Of

lupita academy

"No matter where you’re from, your dreams are valid" - Academy Award Winner,

Lupita Nyong’o

FORWARD THINKERS as I watched the Academy Awards and listened to several of the winners’ acceptance speeches I became inspired because many of them started out with a simple dream and God shined favor on their dream.

Many of the winners stated they never imagined they would ever be on that stage. Not because they didn’t believe in their talent but because the odds were so highly stacked against them.

FORWARD THINKERS it’s time we start imagining ourselves "getting there". I recently heard a very inspiring lyric from the rapper Drake. He stated, "started from the bottom now we are here". The Bible says the last shall become first (Matthew 19:30) and the tail shall become the head (Deuteronomy 28:13). Therefore I’m declaring today FORWARD THINKERS, prepare yourself to be elevated.

FORWARD THINKERS let’s take a look back into the pages of Black History and be inspired by the dream of Wilma Glodean Rudolph.

Wilma was born prematurely at 4.5 pounds the 20th of 22 siblings. Her mother Blanche was a maid and Rudolph contracted infantile paralysis (caused by the polio virus) at age four. She recovered, but wore a brace on her left leg and foot (which had become twisted as a result) until she was nine. She was required to wear an orthopedic shoe for support of her foot for another two years. In addition, by the time she was twelve years old she had also survived bouts of polio and scarlet fever.

In the 1960 Summer Olympics held in Rome, Rudolph became the first American woman to win three gold medals in track and field during a single Olympic Games. As a track and field champion, she elevated women’s track to a major presence in the United States. As a member of the black community, she is also regarded as a civil rights and women’s rights pioneer.

FORWARD THINKERS Wilma Rudolph showed us it’s not where you start but where you finish.

All dreamers must possess a determined spirit. The spirit to be strongly motivated to succeed in the face of opposition. The Apostle Paul states it clearly in Philippians 3:12-14, "12 Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. 13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus."

FORWARD THINKERS let’s look at today’s biblical example: Moses

A Biblical Example- Moses

Exodus 3:10 God spoke to Moses and gave him an assignment Every dream birthed from above will be empowered from above Your dream will allow you to complete and fulfill your God given assignment

Exodus 3:11 Moses says "Who am I" Every dreamer must overcome the spirit of doubt Your dream must be filled with faith not fear

Exodus 3:12 God says I will be with you Every dreamer must have confidence in God’s ability to supply all your needs Your dream must be so big that you can’t imagine accomplishing it without God

Exodus 3:14 God says I AM

Moses from broken home---God says so your dream is still valid

Moses had physical limitations---God says so your dream is still valid

Moses had criminal background---God says so your dream is still valid

In conclusion, FORWARD THINKERS in this season of your life you must chase your dreams and believe without doubt that you have the stuff dreams are made of inside of you.
