"Faith is to believe what you do not see; the reward of this faith is to see what you believe."
- St. Augustine
Forward Thinkers faith comes by hearing the Word of God but subsequently we must also accept the fact fear comes by hearing the words of the world.
The difference between living a life of faith and living life in fear is what you allow yourself to hear.
Forward Thinkers I will never forget the impact hearing Philippians 4:13 had on my life at an early age. The Word of God was sown into my life and a harvest of faith was produced.
Philippians 4:13 (NKJV) 13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
Forward Thinkers many high profile athletes have went to battle on the playing field sporting Philippians 4:13.
Two primetime examples are:
On November 9, 1996, Evander Holyfield vs. Mike Tyson was a perfect example of the power of faith. Evander Holyfield was a heavy underdog to Iron Mike Tyson but Holyfield showed up to fight with his Pastor (a man of God) and Philippians 4:13 (the Word of God) on the back of his robe. Evander Holyfield defeated Iron Mike Tyson that night in front of a record setting crowd. After the surprising upset victory Holyfield declared, "My faith carried me tonight".
Another example of "radical faith" is producing victory which took place on September 27, 2008. After a close loss to the University of Mississippi, Tim Tebow told his University of Florida Gator teammates "I promise we will not lose again this season". Tim Tebow showed up the rest of the season on game days with Philippians 4:13 under his eyes and lead his team to the college National Championship. One of Tim Tebow’ teammates said it felt like Tebow was a prophet and his radical faith motivated the entire team to play like champions.
Forward Thinkers it is amazing how one person with a mustard seed size faith can change the entire culture of a team, family, community, or church. The prevailing question is do you possess the kind of radical faith that can impact your culture?
Forward Thinkers understand that both Evander Holyfield and Tim Tebow had to endure and overcome under a great deal of pressure before they became winners. Faith does not remove pressure or obstacles but faith gives you the strength to succeed in the presence of pressure and obstacles. Philippians 4:13 is the biblical definition of radical faith. Once you have faith and activate it there is nothing out of your reach. Radical faith eliminates every excuse you can come up with. For a matter of fact every time I declare what I can’t do I’m declaring God is a liar. Forward Thinkers ponder over that and meditate on Philippians 4:13.
3 Biblical Foundations To Build Forward Thinking Faith
I. Galatians 6:9 (NKJV) 9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.
Forward Thinkers Paul encourages us here to keep moving forward no matter what we are facing. Remember your faith is bigger than the pressure coming against you.
A. Don’t let pressure take you out
B. Don’t let impatience became a cancer and slowly kill your inner faith
C. Don’t let obstacles make you quit
Caprese Michelangelo spent 4 years of his life painting the Sistine Chapel ceiling under physical pressure but he never stopped painting because the picture painted by faith in his mind was greater than the present pain he was experiencing.
Ephesians 6:10 (NKJV) 10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.
Forward Thinkers Paul encourages us to be strong in faith. The opposite of radical faith is weak faith. We must commit ourselves to operating in strong faith and remove the presence of weak faith.
Forward Thinkers we must put on the full armor of God. Too many are trying to operate in faith wearing only part of their armor. It’s time to be whole.
Forward Thinkers it’s time we stand against the devils schemes. Time out for playing yourself and realize the devil stays up all night to discover a way to knock you down.
Forward Thinkers remember the New Testaments describes people of faith as being rocks, soldiers, and athletes.
III. Philippians 3:12-14 12 Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. 13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
Forward Thinkers we must forget what is behind us. Notice your feet are designed to go forward not backwards because God created us to move in forward direction.
Forward Thinkers the windshield on your car is much bigger than the rear view mirror because we should focus more on where we are going and less on where we have been.
Forward Thinkers we can’t change the past but we can operate in radical faith today and impact our tomorrow. Forward Thinkers when Paul says press toward the goal he is implying that we apply pressure back to the pressure that is trying to press us down.
In conclusion, Forward Thinkers we are now in position to do all things through Christ which strengthens us. Stand on the biblical foundations of faith and go achieve greatness.
