Recently, the 4th Annual F.N. Williams, Sr. Open Golf Classic was held at the Hermann Park Golf Course. The Classic is named in honor of Dr. F.N. Williams, Sr., Pastor of the historic Antioch M.B.C. (fifty-four years). He is the Moderator Emeritus of The Independent Missionary Baptist General Association ofTexas. Dr Williams is one of the co-founders of the T.F. Freeman Ministers/Laity Summit at Texas Southern University (TSU). He served as the President of the Ministers Against Crime. He also serves as the General Chairman of the TSU President's Community Alliance and is a TSU Investor. Dr. Williams is active in theHouston,HarrisCountyand is an advocate for young people.
A Catfish buffet was held after the Classic in remembrance of Chef Ivery Black, former TSU football coach. Keith Huff, retired HPD officer served as the Classic Director; Dr. Matt Rogers, President/CEO, Power Center Pharmacy, served as the VIP Chair; Kenny Burrough (00), TSU Football Program, Celebrity Chair; Eugene Floyd served as the Classic Special Consultant and Mara Roberts served as the Event Coordinator.
The first place winners; Dr. F.N. Williams, Sr.; Rev. Donald Dickson; Rev. F.D. Anderson and Rev. Joseph Franklin. Second place winners; Dr. Matt Rogers, VIP Chair; T.D. Blackshire, Blackshire Insurance; Winfred Frazier and James Sherrod. Third place winners; Rev. Booker T.W. Stewart, Jr. prize chair; Camalie Ruffins; Jzeke Duke and Chris Warner. The highlight of the Golf Classic were Jzeke Duke, Closet to the Pin and
Chris Walker, Longest Drive. The 5th Annual F.N. Williams, Sr. Open Golf Classic is scheduled for Saturday, May 18, 2013.
