Lesson 12: THE WORK OF THE HOLY SPIRIT: The Holy Spirit empowers me to bear fruit through Christ to glorify God.
Bible Fact: The Bible is the infallible word of God and the primary authorized written source that gives Divine instructions to all true Christians
Bible Text: John 16:7,13
Aim: To lead students to accept the Holy Ghost as the promise of Jesus Christ to them personally and to encourage them to be guided by His will for their decisions and daily living.
One New Year's Day, in the Tournament of Roses parade, a beautiful float suddenly sputtered and quit. It was out of gas. The whole parade was held up until someone could get a can of gas. The amusing thing was this float represented the Standard Oil Company. With its vast oil resources, its truck was out of gas.
Often, Christians neglect their spiritual maintenance, and though they are "clothed with power" (Luke 24:49) find themselves out of gas. (Steve Blankenship in God Came Near by Max Lucado, Multnomah Press, 1987, p. 95.) I will study today’s lesson to expand upon my spiritual knowledge of how the Holy Spirit empowers me to give evidence of His fruitful presence in me. I know that as a Christian if the Holy Spirit is not present within me I will respond to life like a car out of gas. Without gas power I will look beautiful but go nowhere and do nothing with significant results of God’s witness in my life. The Holy Spirit is the power to my faith in Christ.
I.My faith in Christ makes me like a tree in the Father’s garden. I can identify the two (2) things that God does to my life concerning bearing fruit as a Christian in John 15:1, 2.
II.Matthew 7:15-23 reveals Jesus explaining to His disciples how to recognize evil deception within people. I can identify the two (2) types of trees and the type of fruit they bear as witness to their true character.
III.James 3:12-18 teaches me to be a true fruit bearer for Christ. I can identify in v. 17 at least seven (7) empowering outcomes for my life if I am a peacemaker empowered by the Holy Spirit.
IV.I understand that my fruitful empowerment will not all come at the same time or show up in the same season of my life. James 5:7, 17,18 gives me instructions on what to do at certain season to make my evident to me and to others. I can identify at least two (2) things I must do during prolonged periods in order for fruitful empowerment to appear in my life.
V.In Galatians 3:22, 23 I can identify at least nine (9) corresponding actions that are evidence of the presence of the Holy Spirit functioning properly in my life.
