v34_TexansThe Houston Texans will be celebrating their 10th year of existence this season, with plenty more in the making.

The National Football League awarded its 32nd franchise to Bob McNair on October 6, 1999. Three years later, the Houston Texans officially joined the NFL.

The Texans played their first preseason game on August 5, 2002, in the Hall of Fame game against the New York Giants. They played their first regular season game on September 8, 2002, against the Dallas Cowboys , a 19-10 victory at Reliant Stadium.

With 10 seasons now in the books, the Texans will celebrate their 10th Anniversary throughout the 2012 regular season. The celebration will include a patch on the team’s uniforms during the season bearing a special 10th Anniversary logo.

Houston Texans owner Bob McNair has had a lot of highs and lows with the team since its start, but the 2011 season had to be one of the most exciting ones.

“It was a joyous moment when we made the playoffs, “ Owner Bob McNair said. “We worked so hard to get there. It had taken longer than I thought it would take us, and to finally make it was something special. To see how happy all the players were and the coaches and the fans, it was just very exhilarating.”

Everyone in the city of Houston is talking about the Texans, who seem to have picked right up where they left off last season after defeating the Carolina Panthers in their first preseason game on the road this past weekend.

McNair is happy to see that under the direction of head coach Gary Kubiak and general manager Rick Smith, the organization has put a team on the field that the fans can be proud of.

With their first playoff run last season, the Texans are coming into the 2012 season as heavy favorites to win the Super Bowl, and McNair would like nothing more to accomplish that feat.

“I want us to be in the Super Bowl every year,” McNair said. “That’s my goal, and if we aren’t doing that, then I’m disappointed.”

“We’ve got a good group of players in place now, and I expect them to perform well. We have a nucleus in place, and we just have to keep adding to that each year and bring in young players and fresh players and just keep upgrading and we can be at the top and stay at the top.”
