Veteran radio legend and Houston community icon Wash Allen will be broadcasting his final show on KCOH Radio, after an illustrious career at the station. Allen, who has been at KCOH Radio (1430 AM) since 1971, is presently the host of the popular “Confessions With Wash Allen” daily radio talk show on KCOH Radio
He has hosted this show for over 25 years. He has also hosted a nationally-syndicated radio show, through ABC Radio Network, for over 12 years in over 60 markets. Allen came to Houston in 1969, where he worked for KCOH Radio and KYOK Radio and has over 45 years of successful broadcasting as an on-air personality in Memphis, Nashville, Cleveland, Ohio; Washington, D.C., and rose to operations manager in Detroit, Michigan.
In 2004, The Houston Press Newspaper named “Confessions with Wash Allen” as the “Best Radio Talk Show in Houston,” and in 2005, he received another accolade as the best radio talkshow host in Houston. In the 70’s, Allen was known as one of the top three broadcasters in the U.S. and was awarded Billboard’s Annual Radio Programming Forum Award.
In 1971, Allen hosted Houston’s first weekly public service show called “Talent Unlimited” on Channel 11 (CBS affiliate). In 1992, he had a weekly primetime TV version of his radio show “Confessions with Wash Allen” on Channel 39 (Gaylord Broadcasting). Allen has been the vice–president of production and operations with Foston International for the past 20 years. Wash Allen endorses products and other services to his audiences, including Wash Allen Pecan Praline candy from Gussie’s Kitchen and Wash Allen’s Happy Feet Dance.
Thursday January 31, 2013 will be Wash Allen’s last day on the air at KCOH 1430 AM.
