TSU_Signs_Three_Players

With the departure of Southwestern Athletic Conference Player of the Year Omar Strong, and Defensive Player of the Year Fred Sturdivant, the Men’s Basketball coaching staff sought to find players who could step in and fill the void left by those seniors.

Last week, the Tigers announced that Vicktor Arnick, Victor Haywood, and Jose Rodriguez will join the team next season. “We feel really good about the players that we were able to sign,” said TSU head coach Mike Davis. “We were able to bring in two perimeter players out of Dallas Carter High School that we feel should be able to contribute immediately in Vicktor Arnick and Victor Haywood.”

Vicktor Arnick is listed at 6-6 and ranked #56 by Texas Hoops. During his senior year he averaged 17.8 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game. He has been described as a long athletic wing player who can get out and run the floor well in transition. He has the ability to create his own shot off the dribble and his length allows him to get into the passing lane and create deflections and steals.

Victor Haywood is listed as 6-7. During his senior year he averaged 12.6 points, 8.4 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 4.5 blocks per game. Haywood has been described as a good athlete who can hit the spot up three and has good post moves. He is a good rebounder and shot blocker who runs the floor well in transition.

Jose Rodriguez is a 6-6 junior college transfer from Gulf Coast State College in Bronx, New York. In his last season, Rodriguez averaged 17.5 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game. He is described as a solid scorer inside the paint and from behind the arc. He is expected to come in and contribute to the team early.
