Members of the Texas Business Alliance (TBA) and small business across the Greater Houston area assembled together for the monthly TBA Work N’ Lunch luncheon, held June 13 at the Houston Astros’ Diamond Club located at Minute Maid Park downtown.
This month’s luncheon, hosted by TBA, in conjunction with Major League Baseball (MLB) and the Houston Forward Times, focused on networking and small businesses seeking opportunities to do business with the entire MLB network, including MLB.com and all of their Major League and Minor League baseball clubs at the MLB’s second Annual Diversity Business Summit co-hosted by the Houston Astros.
Senior Vice President of Diversity & Strategic Alliances for MLB, Wendy Lewis, was the keynote speaker at the luncheon, as well as Houston Astros Vice President and General Manager Marcel Braithwaite. Lewis shared information with attendees on how they should prepare for the business summit, as well as what they should expect at the summit.
Braithwaite shared information on some of the opportunities available with the Houston Astros and gave attendees insight on who they should best position their business to pursue opportunities with the Astros. Both Lewis and Braithwaite took questions from the audience and provided information to the attendees that all found helpful.
“I am always happy to see our members and the small business community at-large benefit from the meaningful workshops and networking opportunities we provide,” said Texas Business Alliance Founder and CEO Jeffrey L. Boney. “These monthly Work N’ Lunch events are one of the many opportunities TBA provides to help fulfill our vision to strengthen the Texas economy and spur job creation by expanding minority- and women-owned businesses, and encouraging youth entrepreneurship.”
The 2013 MLB Diversity Business Summit, touted as the premier sports employment and supplier diversity trade fair of its’ kind, was held at the George R. Brown Convention Center on June 18-19. The event gave job seekers and entrepreneurs the unique opportunity of meeting with MLB’s Clubs at both the Major League and Minor League level as well as sponsorship partners.
The Texas Business Alliance Work N’ Lunch is held the second Thursday of each month and all businesses and individuals are encouraged to attend. Visit www.texasbusinessalliance.org for more information.
