It’s time for the Annual Children’s Book Sale! Two Days Only, Friday, September 16 from 11am - 6pm and Saturday, September, 17 from 10am - 5pm. Families and teachers are invited to have fun finding great children’s books at bargain prices at the Friends of the Houston Public Library’s 11th Annual Children’s Book Sale. This event is free and open to the public. The 11th Annual Children’s Book Sale will take place at the Resurrection Metropolitan Community Church, 2025 West 11th Street, 77008 at the intersection of T. C. Jester and W. 11th Street. The sale will feature more than 11,000 books for ages 2 to 18 and none will be priced higher than $2 (with the exception of encyclopedias and other sets). All paperback books and board books will be sold for a $1. Specially-priced “grab bag” boxes of paperbacks and assorted goodies will be sold for $10 (50-75 items per box). On Saturday, September 17 only, there will be a $10 Bag Sale from 3 PM – 5 PM (Fiesta paper sacks will be provided).
Book sale categories will include: fiction and nonfiction books, reference materials, graphic novels, encyclopedia sets, books in English, Spanish and Vietnamese, resource materials for parents, teachers, and homeschoolers, and other hidden treasures. Educators need their tax-exempt ID. Checks, cash, and credit cards (Visa and MasterCard) will be accepted. All proceeds from the Children’s Book Sale support the Houston Public Library and help provide funding for library programs, materials, and scholarships for staff.
Studies show that children whose parents read to them before they start kindergarten do better in language-proficiency tests. Moreover, students in communities with access to books and libraries tend to have higher academic achievement. So whether you are buying used books for your personal use or for your school library, the Friends of HPL Children’s Book Sale is the place for back-to-school bargain books.
