David E. Talbert, Award-Winning Playwright, is bringing his latest stage play, “What My Husband Doesn’t Know,” to Houston. David who is known for his inspirational dramas is calling “What My Husband Doesn’t Know” his best play yet and actor Clifton Davis couldn’t agree more saying, “I believe he [David] has truly hit his stride on this, his 13th play. Twenty years in the business and David has written what I think is one of his best pieces.”
It’s no wonder David sought the talents of Clifton Davis, to be a part of his production. Clifton, a veteran actor, songwriter, and minister has demonstrated his theatrical abilities in numerous television shows and films over his career that spans 40 years. Clifton mentioned, “David called me personally and asked me which made me feel good but I didn’t agree until I read the script. Once I read the play and saw the interesting character and role I would play, I said yes.”
Clifton Davis, who stars as Franklin Summer, a wealthy construction mogul, describes the play as a “cautionary tale about what you don’t want to happen in your house.” The character is a bit of a workaholic that stays involved in his work but not as involved with things at home with his wife Lena, who is portrayed by the beautiful and talented Michelle Williams. When an unexpected stranger, played by Morris Chestnut, comes into the picture and begins to give her the attention she desires the story evolves from there.
“What My Husband Doesn’t Know” has an impressive cast that includes Grammy Award winning singer Ann Nesby (Former lead singer of the Sounds of Blackness), comedians Esau McGraw (BET's Comic View & Martin Lawrence's 1st Amendment) and Tiffany Haddish (NBC's My Name is Earl, That's So Raven & HBO's Def Comedy Jam) and actress Chloe Spencer.
This play has swept the nation leaving audiences satisfied. Clifton recalls, “The show has had an amazing reaction from the start. People laugh so hard they hurt themselves. We have been selling out houses for the entire tour.” Fans of the production will be happy to know that David officially announced to the audience in Charleston, South Carolina that a feature film is in the works.
“What Your Husband Doesn’t Know” will be in Houston playing at the Hobby Center October 13-16th. Tickets are on sale now. For more information on the show and the latest news on David E. Talbert’s upcoming projects, visit www.davidetalbert.com.
