Lesson 5: “The Holy Spirit Gives Me Power To Live A Godly Life”
Bible Fact: The Bible is the infallible word of God and the primary authorized written source that gives Divine instructions to all true Christians.
Bible Text: John 16:7,13
Aim: To lead students to accept the Holy Ghost as the promise of Jesus Christ to them personally and to encourage them to be guided by His will for their decisions and daily living.
Speaking to a large audience, D.L. Moody held up a glass and asked, “How can I get the air out of this glass?” One man shouted, “Suck it out with a pump!” Moody replied, “That would create a vacuum and shatter the glass.” After numerous other suggestions Moody smiled, picked up a pitcher of water, and filled the glass. “There,” he said, “all the air is now removed.” He then went on to explain that victory in the Christian life is not accomplished by “sucking out a sin here and there,” but by being filled with the Holy Spirit. (Today in the Word, September, 1991, p. 30. )
The Holy Ghost is the Christian’s power to live in compliance to the will of God. There is no power for the Christian without the Holy Ghost’s presence. No amount of gifts or education can suck the control of sin out of a life of a person that keeps him/her from living close to God. Only by the filling of the soul, heart and mind with the water of the Holy Spirit can God’s power permeate the life of a true believer as a living witness of the spiritual transformation. From this lesson I will use all opportunities daily to let my personal powers be replaced by the Holy Spirit’s dominating presence for others to see and glorify God working in me.
I. The Holy Ghost is every true Christian’s power source to witness for God according to Acts 1:8. From this scripture I can identify at what time I can expect to receive my supernatural power to interface as a promise from Jesus Christ.
II. I can list the two signs that accompanied the powerful presence that was demonstrated among the early Bible believers in Acts 2;3,4 (Mark 16:17) on the Day of Pentecost as one of the promises.
III. Matthew 7:16 lets me know that my fruit indicates the type of power and witness that I will demonstrate in my understanding and my living according to what I chose to believe. I can list at least five (5) fruit as signs of the Holy Spirit that should accompany me when I am filled with His power found in Galatians 5:22,23
IV. I will be prepared to discuss with others how my demonstrating at least four (4) of the wonders and signs in Galatians 5:22, 23 influence others by me to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved. I shall be prepared to give specific examples.
