A Tribute to Women Community Leaders

The Houston Metropolitan Area Section of the National Council Negro Women celebrated the 137th Anniversary of the birth of their founder, Mary McLeod Bethune. The theme of this year’s event was “Lift the Legacy” with the goal to continue to lead, develop and advocate for women of African decent.

v28_debutantesThe Houston Metropolitan Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated culminated the 2012 Debutante Season by presenting fourteen beautiful and accomplished young ladies in an elegant setting depicting chivalrous Camelot on Saturday June 23, 2012, at the Houston Marriott Westchase Hotel.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority was founded in 1913 on the campus of Howard University. The organization is a public service sorority embracing National initiatives and programs that all chapters implement. In addition to these initiatives, many local chapters develop additional projects in the local community. The Houston Metropolitan Alumnae Chapter was chartered in 1974 and has been presenting young ladies to society since 1985.

v25_kirbyjonMayor Annise Parker Proclaimed Pastor Kirbyjon Caldwell DaySunday, June 10, 2012, was a significantly historic day for the City of Houston as the Windsor Village United Methodist Church Family and the nation celebrated the history making “30th Anniversary of Senior Pastor, Kirbyjon H. Caldwell, The Man, The Ministry, The Message.” Pastor Caldwell serves the 17,000 member church which is one of the largest United Methodist Churches in the nation.

Houston, TX. –XI Chapter celebrated its 50th Anniversary with a luncheon at Hilton Houston, Hobby Airport Hotel, 8181 Airport Boulevard, Houston, TX 77061. The theme was “Fulfilling a Legacy of Giving Back to the Community”.

Josephine Anderson, XI Chapter’s twenty-third president states that “We are so very grateful to our organizer, Mrs. Pauline D. Scott along with twenty-two enthusiastic ladies (Houston’s Best representing a myriad of businesses and professions), in April, 1962, whose vision was to promote high scholastic standards, personal growth, and career awareness as well as providing opportunities for community service through networking and personal commitment.”
