ThanksgivingA moment of reflection and testimony came upon me and I was reminded how humbled I am by how this column is received. As you may or may not know, I am not nor do I profess to be an ordained minister of any kind and to be honest, I was overwhelmed at the prospect of even attempting to write a spiritual column. I first had to accept my ability to write as a blessing that I was not using properly as the initial catalyst.

ThanksgivingA minister recently reminded me of something I trust you will also find beneficial in understanding your walk in faith. The pastor reminded those, who would claim Christ as their own, that being a Christian is part of an evolutionary process. Make no mistake about it that there will be problems along the way. But remember the process has purpose. However, lest we forget, there is also power resulting from committing oneself to the process of being faithful. I know in the end this may sound simple enough as it references something you and I have known for quite some time. Now in that sanctuary I claimed it as an eventful reminder that there is power in the process of trying to be faithful. There is purpose behind our struggle of faith.

Bible Text: John 16:7,13

If a man is filled with anger, then anger controls his life.

If a man is filled with greed, then greed dominates his life.

If a man is filled with lust, then lust governs his life.

If a man is filled with love, then love influences all he does.

ThanksgivingOur corporate chaplain is responsible for this one. It’s all about praying in the morning. I remember him telling me that this was something he was trying to develop the habit of doing and upon further review, I’ve decided to try it too. As a concept, it’s actually pretty easy to do. In the morning I am not usually in need of anything but I am understanding now that calling upon the Lord is an act of spiritual clarification. From evening prayer to dawn’s affirmation of God’s power, I probably take this time as much for granted as anyone. After some Morning Prayer practice, it’s becoming apparent that I need to thank God for seeing me through the night. At this point I ask Him to order my steps, guide my thoughts and allow me to do something during the course of the day to give indication of a deep appreciation for letting me wake up.
