v20_Dynamo2-RudleyThe Houston Dynamo and BBVA Compass launched its Building a Better Mind Initiative at The Rusk School in Houston’s East End, as part of their Building a Better Mind campaign.

Dynamo players Colin Clark, Adam Moffat, Brian Ownby and Nathan Sturgis, along with BBVA Compass and Dynamo officials, read to students in kindergarten through second grade. The event was part of the BBVA Compass literacy program, “Reading Counts,” which promotes the importance of reading to children and provides free books to students.

v20_SeauPolite, sensitive, kind-hearted, just someone who despite his NFL Fame, he always wanted to do everything that he could to help others. This was the first impression that I got from former San Diego Chargers linebacker Junior Seau, when I first met him at a series of the “Cresent Moon Foundation” charity events that were put on by former NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Warren Moon.

Junior didn’t mind taking photos with fans, signing autographs, or even having a laugh with someone that he never knew at these events.

The Touchdown Club of Houston hosted their first event of the 2012 football season featuring LSU head football coach Les Miles and newly hired men’s basketball coach Johnny Jones at their annual dinner at the J. W. Marriott Hotel in the Galleria.

The event, which was presented by Key Energy Services was filled to capacity with fans, alumni and guest of Louisiana State University.

v19_Steve_FrancisWell the abbreviated 2011-2012 NBA season is over for the Houston Rockets and you can’t help but wonder, what if they were still playing in the post-season right now!

It really would be great to see what the future of a somewhat talented team would be like. If I looked into a crystal ball right now I could see Goran Dragic starting along with Courtney Lee and Chase Budinger. Marcus Camby was a nice acquisition for the Rockets and he rebounded very well, despite having a bad back.

v19_whitney_MercilusThe Houston Texans have completed another successful NFL Draft for the books. After drafting Illinois linebacker Whitney Mercilus in the first round, the Texans shifted their roles to the offensive side of the football.

Houston drafted two wide receivers in Ohio State’s DeVier Posey and Michigan State Spartans Keshawn Martin. They also got three offensive linemen in Miami(Ohio) guard Brandon Brooks and Ben Jones, and Purdue Boilmakers tackle Nick Mondek. Texas A&M Aggies kicker Randy Bullock and Nebraska defensive end Jared Crick were the other additons selected in the draft.
